Beauty is...

The building blocks to good writing begin at a very early age. The following composition was written by my daughter Reece when she was in 2nd grade. She won first place at both the school and district level with this piece. Notice how she organizes her thoughts and uses vivid description. Other elements (like spelling, indentions, etc.) are still being developed, but that does not take away from the depth of the writing.

Beauty is me.

I’m beautyful on the outside and on the inside. My talent is to dance and I am a very beautyful dancer. When I look in the mirror at dance class I feel amased. I emagen it will be like when I am on stage during my recidle. I feel nurvis. But I work hard so I will know my dance. My dance teacher piks very pretty outfits for my recital and that helps me dance better. I think the adience will be amased by how well I dance and how pretty the costums are.

I look very unique. My hair is not like anyone elses. My hair is so thik I can do almost anything with it. I like to put it up in a bun, in a ponytail, in a hedband, and my mom always puts spescile curls in my hair. I used to have curls, but then one day when I was 4 yers old my curls poofed out, and now I have strate haires, but it can still curl. My eyes have a beutiyful shade of brown. Thay remind me of chocolate! I love chocolate! I am 8 years old, and I am very tiny for my age, and people treat me very spescilly because I am tiny. My skin is always a little tan, it feels very soft, and it is hairry! Sometimes people say that hair on my arms is a bad thing, but I am still beutyful because I don’t lisen to what other people say. Diffrint can be beutyful.

How smart I am makes me beautiful. I love to do math, and I am a amasing writer even thow I am not a pirfict speller! I like to writ creatively, and people at school tell me that thay like my drawings. I give a lot of my pictures to specil people that I know. I work hard to make good grades for my report cards so I can be a good student.

At school I treat my friends very kindly. It makes you feel good to help people, like when they are hurt or have hurt feelings. One time when someone was triying to steal something from one of my friends I trid to get it back. When my friends get hurt I help them by bringing them to the nurse. When my friend broke her arm I helped her write. I speak very kindly to my teachers. I give them roses from my garden, pictures, and hugs. I even visit my old teachers to read to ther class. I cair about my teachers and friends, and that makes me beautiful.

All of the time my friends, my teachers, and my mom tell me that I’m beautiful. I beleav them because I know I am.

Here's one of my poems:
I am broken.

Parts of me are,

  Are scattered within the undulating waves of possibility.

When we were we and I was unknown,

   The mold amassed with intricate precision;

But it wasn’t long before fragility overcame our bones and

The soft of the flesh encompassed, hardened.

   We broke, like scattered pieces of a shattered mirror. I could see myself,

           But only in pieces.

 I found he, and he found but pieces of me…. Lost-

   Imbedded in the tainted brown slats of Earth; Flowing amongst the disconnected

              agitations of the wind;

    Shining darkly amidst the slight impression of the moon.

I am found, broken and unfixable—a mere particle of my previous self.

You pick up a piece of the broken glass. Within, projecting back, is a slither of possibility.

  Together We Can Stop Bullies By: Claire Domingue

Once upon a time there was a little girl called Elyza. She was very small, but adventurous. Elyza was always bullied because of her size. She had short, red hair; big, unique ,green eyes, and she also had lots of freckles. ……. And the best part, lots of friends!

Elyza was bullied so much and called so many different names that one sunny, beautiful day she said, “Do you know what? This needs to end! I’m sick and tired of being bullied!”

So, she decided to gather all of her friends and stand up to the bullies. Her friends Maddy, Lilly, Abbey, Katie, Rebecca, Arielle, Chris, Dave, and Justin all had a meeting about their awful issue.  They were bullied for things like having a big nose, looking different……….ect.

At the meeting, they gave suggestions. Katie suggested to play a prank, but that’s mean. There were many other ideas. Finally, Elyza suggested to get the counselor to sign a petition that says if she hears about a bully, she has to give the bully’s parents a note, in person, and give the bully a special class until they decide to not bully anymore. They all agreed on that idea.

So, they made the petition, then they told the counselor about the bullies. She appreciated the kids ideas about how to stop bullies, so she agreed to sign the petition.

The next time Elyza was bullied, she told the counselor. The counselor had a conference with the bully’s parents, and the bully had to go to a behavior class. Elyza hoped that neither she nor any other kid would ever be bullied again.

Together we can stop bullies. Elyza her friends, the parents and the counselor  did this all TOGETHER as a team. Sometimes it will take more than one person to make a serious change. There are  more problems ,such as not recycling, world hunger, and pollution, that we need to fix.  A good  idea is to start a club (or a group) to end these horrible issues. My point is that TOGETHER we can stop bad problems! Will you join me (or Elyza)?!

STOP Avoiding Animals!

Together all of us, not just one, can make BIG differences. We can help Haiti, we can save the environment, and help feed hungry and poor people. People need help but so do animals. Animals can’t speek in words so we need to pay attentin and stop avoiding animals.

            Lots of animals are in danger. I learn about animals and I see animals often. I see a commerchil on TV a lot, and I feel sad because all of the animals are cute and I can’t believe they go threw this kind of suffering. Maybe you have seen it too. The commerchil shows dogs, cats, horses and other animals. The animals look sad because they are hurt.

            The commerchil is by the S.P.C.A. I found a lot of information on the S.P.C.A. website, and you can too at www.SPCA.org. The S.P.C.A. stands for Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. They provide shelter and careness to the animals that are hurt, sick, and unwanted.

            I found out on the computer that Denton, Texas (where I live) has an animal shelter. It does fundraisers to raise money for the animals like the Tails and Trails run and a dog walk. I also found out that it is cheeper to go to the animal shelter than a pet store. At the pet store you can buy 1 dog for $600, but you can adopt 1 dog for $120, or you can adopt 2 cats for $110. The animal shelter has a very good deal!

            No matter what, you can find and adopt an animal all around the world. You don’t have to adopt one, but you can still help. You can DONATE money, volunteer your time, spay and neuter your pets, and report animal abuse. All together we can help animals.
